LPBF parameter optimisation and melt-pool dynamics
Chor Yen Yap completed his PhD at the Singapore Centre for 3D Printing at Nanyang Technological University, working on laser powder bed fusion process parameter optimisation. His 2015 review in Applied Physics Reviews, "Review of selective laser melting: Materials and applications," co-authored with Chua Chee Kai and colleagues, is one of the most-cited overviews of LPBF process-material combinations and is widely used as an entry-point reference for engineers new to the process. His work covers VED windows, scan strategy effects on porosity, and material-specific parameter envelopes for stainless steels, aluminium alloys, and titanium. He has subsequently moved into industry roles in Singapore's AM ecosystem.
