Dimensional metrology, surface measurement, and X-ray CT for AM
Richard Leach is Professor of Metrology at the University of Nottingham and heads the Manufacturing Metrology Team within the Centre for Additive Manufacturing. Before academia he spent 25 years at the UK National Physical Laboratory (NPL), where he led the dimensional metrology programme and authored the textbook "Fundamental Principles of Engineering Nanometrology." His Nottingham group focuses on areal surface texture characterisation of AM surfaces (ISO 25178), traceable X-ray CT for AM part inspection, and the development of metrology artefacts and reference standards for AM. Leach has contributed extensively to ISO TC 213 (Geometrical Product Specification) and to the metrology sections of the ISO/ASTM 52900-series AM standards.
