Process–structure–property relationships and defect control in LPBF
Sneha Prabha Narra is Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University and a faculty member of the NextManufacturing Center, with a prior position at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Her group's research links LPBF and EBM process parameters to local melt-pool conditions, then to microstructure and ultimately to defect populations — extending the Beuth-group process-map tradition with high-fidelity in-situ thermal monitoring and machine-learning defect classifiers. Narra has published on porosity formation maps in Ti-6Al-4V, the role of spatter on lack-of-fusion defects, and parameter-driven microstructure tailoring in IN718 and refractory alloys. Her work is closely tied to industrial qualification programmes with aerospace OEMs and the U.S. Department of Defense.
