Selective laser sintering and metal AM process modelling
Suman Das is the Morris M. Bryan Jr. Professor of Mechanical Engineering for Advanced Manufacturing Systems at Georgia Tech, and director of the Direct Digital Manufacturing Laboratory. He completed his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin under Joseph Beaman in the laser-sintering group that gave rise to the SLS process, and his subsequent work has spanned selective laser melting of high-temperature superalloys, large-area maskless photopolymerisation, and AM process modelling. He led the development of Scalable and Adaptive Laser Selective Melting (SALSM) and has published influential studies on equiaxed grain promotion in nickel-superalloy LPBF. Das is a Fellow of ASME and SME and has held NSF CAREER and ONR Young Investigator awards.
